The inevitable decision has happened, but the problems are still there for Chelsea Football Club.
Potter is gone, his decisions were potty (pardon the pun), & hearing the boos at Stamford Bridge on Saturday night after another dismal pitiful defeat, showed that this process was in fact a failed experiment which has cost millions & millions of pounds to the club & hundreds & hundreds of pounds for the supporters who have traveled up & down the country watching arguably the
worst Chelsea team in many a year.
Chelsea are now searching for the FOURTH head coach since 2020, the more things change, the more they stay the same it seems. The process of finding the right candidate begins & now the million pound ‘or with this club, the one hundred million pound’ question is ‘Who will take over?’
It seems according to journalists in the know that Julian Naglesmann is the favourite. A coach with a glowing reputation but was perhaps unfairly sacked by Bayern Munich & one that our rivals also fancy for their dugout next season.
He would be one that would perhaps fit the model Chelsea FC are trying to implement but then saying this, a used cheap Airfix model kit lasted longer & had more sustainability.
Especially with his past working relationship with Christopher Vivell, Julian may see this as the opportunity to build his reputation further with young players to nurture, (He did the same with Nkunku & Werner among others).
Now on paper, it seems a good fit, but like a dodgy set of jeans from Burtons, there could always be a problem. Just why did he get sacked from the dream job of any German coach, Bayern Munich?
Did he lose the dressing room?
Did he get too big for his boots?
8 wins in the Uefa Champions League this season shouldn’t be brushed off but at the same time, Bayern showed what Chelsea showed in the past & that is, any glimpses of 2nd place will not be tolerated.
Now what of the other candidates?
Luis Enrique?
An experienced elite coach who has worked with some of the best at his time at Barcelona. A man whose pedigree shows he isn’t afraid of dropping big-name personalities & has the ability to mold a quality team into winners.
But has he got the temperament & patience to deal with the circus that is Chelsea Football Club?
Antonio Conte?
Now that he has left the rubbish hep in North London, this serial winner deserves a second chance in SW6, the last manager to win the Premier League for Chelsea, this Italian ‘guerriero’ could be exactly what Todd & his band of merry misfits need & once again transform the fortunes of a underperforming team.
However with Antonio still in Italy & having the negative memories of his last job, would his ego clash with the owner who it seems doesn’t like confrontation?
Jose Mourinho?
The man who needs no introduction, 3 rd times a charm they say?
It could certainly be a fairy tale ending to one of the all-time great stories ever told between a manager & a club. What better way to end the story by winning a European Cup with Chelsea for the first time?
People will say ‘His old, his gone backwards, his not the same Jose’.
They are right, he isn’t the same manager however the sparkle in his eye sitting in the Stamford Bridge dugout & his family living in London, it would be tempting for any man.
But what do winners do often in the face of adversity, they prove the doubters wrong. His last two jobs in England did not have the same success as those down the Kings Road & for someone of Jose’s character, he will want to end on a high & if that means a couple more Premier League trophies & possibly a European Cup, Jose’s Chelsea legacy will truly be etched as the greatest
manager in the clubs history.
The downside to all this, well it is Jose Mourinho after all & nothing ever runs smoothly with him in charge.
So Todd, I suggest you stop binge-watching on Ted Lasso thinking that’s the real thing & appoint an elite manager who can take Chelsea back to the promise land, back to becoming the best in the country. We have the facilities in Cobham, we have the finances, now we need the intelligence to appoint a winner, not a substitute PE teacher who was lauded by everyone as being a nice
guy.
With the managers mentioned above, it shows nice guys do not win you trophies, winners do.
